How teachers assign speaking tasks to learners, or make an AI plan for them and tap Start.
In the Teaching space, teachers can assign speaking tasks to learners, or make an AI plan for a learner and start it. The goal is more speaking, not piles of homework.
Before you start
- Sign in with the teacher main account.
- Open the Teaching space.
- Add learner accounts.
- Learners have practice minutes (from the teaching pool or allocated by you).
- Before assigning exam practice or an Exam prep plan, the learner needs the matching materials. Get or buy them for the learner in the store.
Where it is
| Who | Does what | Where |
|---|
| Teacher | Assign speaking task | Me → Teaching → pick a learner → Assign speaking task (or the matching entry in Space) |
| Teacher | Make / start a plan | Bottom tab Spaces → Plans, or Today’s step on Home. See Make an AI plan |
| Teacher | Task summary / completed | Space → Speaking tasks |
| Learner | Practise tasks | Learn → Practice tasks, tap Practice |
| Learner | Follow the plan | Today’s step on Home, Learn → Today, or Practice tasks |
| Teacher | Check progress | View learner practice summaries; or scan Space → Activity (completed only) |
Assigning speaking tasks and making plans are separate. For the sub-pages see Space: overview, plans, speaking tasks, activity. For reminders use Messages.
Steps: assign a speaking task
| Step | Teacher | Learner |
|---|
| 1 | Me → Teaching → pick learners (several allowed; each gets their own copy) | — |
| 2 | Assign speaking task, choose Scenario practice or Exam practice (item type + number of items, or a mock interview) | — |
| 3 | Title, instructions, suggested length, due date (optional) | — |
| 4 | Tick Activate on publish, tap Publish task | A new entry appears in Learn → Practice tasks (Activity does not show “just assigned”) |
| 5 | Before class, check the summary and Space speaking tasks / Activity, then decide the next task | Completes the practice |
If Activate on publish is unticked, the task is saved as Not activated and the learner cannot practise it yet.
Steps: make a plan for a learner
| Step | Teacher | Learner |
|---|
| 1 | Space → Plans → AI plan, choose the learner under Who is this plan for | — |
| 2 | Choose a plan type (Exam prep / Single skills / Scenario practice / Other), generate, and save to Not started | Cannot see it |
| 3 | Tap Start in that learner’s Not started. See Start a plan and the active limit | It appears under Active and in Today’s step |
Suggested rhythm
- Make sure the learner has minutes and the materials they need.
- Assign a few tasks they can finish, or start a plan of about a week.
- Check the summary before class, then decide the next task.
If…
| Situation | What to do |
|---|
| The learner’s list has no task | Make sure it is published and activated and the learner is signed in to the right learner account |
| You are told the learner has no speaking-item materials | You can still assign it; get or buy the material for the learner in the store |
| The learner cannot see the plan | It is still Not started. The learner sees it after you tap Start |
| The learner cannot find “Plans” | Plans are in Space; Today’s step on Home also leads there |
| Activity shows no new task | That is normal. Activity only lists completed practice; assignment reminders are notifications |
| You only want progress, not assigning | See View learner practice summaries |
